Each year, billions of dollars worth of packages are stolen from our front porches. After watching too many videos of thieves stealing packages and hearing them explain what they did in their own words, Operation Decoy sprang to life. Most thieves walk or drive along neighborhood streets looking for a package on a porch. They then walk to the door as if they were a legitimate visitor, pick up the package and casually walk away. So how does Operation Decoy work? Well what would happen if the same thieves visited the same neighborhood but something was different? What if every house had one or more packages on its front porch? Jackpot! Right? But what if the package they stole from the first house was empty or filled with rocks or trash or something even worse? And then what if this was the case with every package they stole in the neighborhood? This is what Operation Decoy is attempting to do. What would the thieves do if all of the houses in the neighborhood kept an empty package or two on their front porch at all times? Thieves walking down your street would see nonstop packages every day and have no way of knowing if there was even one real package in the entire neighborhood. And not every house in the neighborhood has to participate. If even half of your neighbors participated, the thieves would move off to another neighborhood that hadn't heard of Operation Decoy.
